We had a lovely time participating in the Artist Edge salon at the Lori Ryland.com Gallery yesterday afternoon. The three-hour event included hearing complete stories by Liz Prato and Stevan Allred. Martha Ragland read the first three pages of her cozy mystery novel, then talked about the decisions she made in those pages, which led to many questions and comments by audience members. She also read her essay in Brave on the Page, about the race track research she’s been doing. I read my essay about when I find time to write, followed by a novel excerpt. Jon Bell joined us for the Q&A; he will be a featured reader next month, and Martha will return to read as well.
After all of us completed our parts, Ruth Tuff discussed her art and, in particular, the long creative journey of finally completing a painting that began as a response to Sept. 11.
Special thanks to Lori Ryland for hosting a magical, artistic afternoon!
